Boutiques and Shopping in Bellaire

This guide stays on Bellaire's own streets. Bigger shopping districts such as Rice Village and Meyerland Plaza lie just beyond the city line in Houston, and they are a different kind of outing. Here the list is shorter, and every entry says only what the shop itself lists on its site or in our places file.

The Bellaire Boulevard run

Start at Bellaire Boulevard Center, 5130 Bellaire Blvd, which our file lists as a shopping center. Its listing does not name its tenants, so treat it as a landmark on the way to the shops below rather than a destination. A little farther along, Bellaire Triangle Shopping Center, 5427 Bellaire Blvd, is listed the same way, and it is worth a look if you are working your way along the boulevard.

Boutiques and gifts

Magpies Gifts, 5000 Bellaire Blvd, is a family-owned gift shop. Its site lists jewelry, clothing, home decor and baby items, and it says seasonal gift wrapping is available in the store and online. The shop lists Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Children's Collections, 5219 Bellaire Blvd, is a consignment shop for children. Its site lists seasonal clothing from newborn to size 8 and baby gear, and it says plainly that it does not buy items, so bring nothing to sell. It lists Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

AGC Boutique, 5007 Bissonnet St, is a resale boutique, and the site of the charity behind it says donations are received by appointment. The boutique lists Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is closed Sunday and Monday.

Dresses, boots and rugs

Amore Bridal Couture, 5200 W Loop S, Suite 300, is a bridal salon. Its site lists off-the-rack and custom gowns, private fittings, in-house alterations and gown preservation, and asks you to book an appointment online. It names designers that include Allure Bridal, Maggie Sottero and Morilee. The salon lists Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On Bellaire Boulevard a shoe repair, a watch repair, a jeweler and a consignment shop all sit within a block of one another.

Red Wing, 5407 Bellaire Blvd, sells Red Wing boots and shoes along with Irish Setter and Vasque. Its store page lists boot repair and a foot-scanning fitting, and it promises free conditioning and laces for the life of your boots. It lists Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

Rug Weavers, 6507 S Rice Ave, sells modern, vintage and traditional rugs, including Persian and Oushak styles, and offers rug washing and rug repair. Its site says the owner has more than 30 years of experience. The shop lists Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Jewelers and repair counters

MJ Jewelers of Bellaire, 5208 Bellaire Blvd, sells rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and bridal jewelry that its site says are handcrafted at its atelier. It lists Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Bellaire Shoe Repair, 5204 Bellaire Blvd, is listed as a shoe repair shop. It lists Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Mr C Watch & Clock Repair, 5210 Bellaire Blvd, repairs and restores watches and clocks, according to its site, which says Mr. C has twenty-two years of experience in horology. It lists Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Bellaire Boulevard a shoe repair, a watch repair, a jeweler and a consignment shop all sit within a block of one another.

That block is the best argument for shopping on foot here. You can leave a pair of boots, a watch and a ring to be fitted in one walk, and collect them on the same trip back.

Planning the loop

Put the listed hours side by side and a route suggests itself. Nearly every shop here lists a Saturday close of 5 p.m. The exceptions are the repair counters, because Bellaire Shoe Repair lists 3 p.m. and Mr C Watch & Clock Repair lists 4 p.m., while Rug Weavers lists 6 p.m. So drop off the boots, the watch and anything else that needs mending first, then spend the afternoon on gifts, dresses and rugs, and collect the repairs on your way back on a weekday if Saturday runs out.

Weekday shoppers have more room. Most of these shops open at 9 or 10 in the morning and close at 5 or 6 in the evening, which suits a lunch hour, and Red Wing lists a 7 p.m. close for the after-work crowd.

Records

Black Dog Records, 4900 Bissonnet St, Suite 102, is listed as a music and DVD store. Our file lists no hours, so look up its site before you go.
