Guide
Things to Do with Kids in Bellaire
Bellaire is 3.6 square miles, which suits small legs. Nearly everything below is in the city, and the few places that sit across the city line in Houston are close enough to count. Most of what works for children in Bellaire fits in an afternoon, which is exactly how long a small person's good mood lasts.

Bellaire is 3.6 square miles, which suits small legs. Nearly everything below is in the city, and the few places that sit across the city line in Houston are close enough to count.
Most of what works for children in Bellaire fits in an afternoon, which is exactly how long a small person's good mood lasts. So this guide is sorted by what you need that afternoon to do: get the wiggles out, get wet, make something, or hand the children to someone else for an evening.
Outside
For playgrounds, the city lists one at Lafayette, Evergreen, Ware Family and Russ Pitman parks, and the parks and playgrounds guide has the details of each. Evelyn's Park, at 4400 Bellaire Blvd, has its own natural playground and calendar, and it is covered in the Evelyn's Park guide. The conservancy's events calendar lists a children's circle time and art in the park among its regular programs, and the park has a cafe on the grounds for the grown-ups, which keeps a visit from ending when the snacks run out.
The Nature Discovery Center, 7112 Newcastle St, shares Russ Pitman Park and is the best answer to a child who asks where the animals are. The park's page lists a Nature Play Area, a Sensory Garden, an aviary, a cypress pond, and the Dean Neubek Critter Classroom. The Discovery Rooms post Tuesday to Friday from 1 to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the school year, and weekends only from June through August.
The center's fall festival is on October 17 and 18, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Admission is free, but games and activities need an Activity Wristband, which the center sells in advance or at the gate. The page lists pumpkins, crafts, live animals, a costume contest and food trucks.
In the water
The Bellaire Family Aquatic Center, at 7001 5th St, is the city's Town Square pool, and the city's Aquatics page lists swim lessons and the Bellaire Barracudas Swim Team among what the pools offer. The city describes a splash pad among its aquatic features, and the leisure pool runs as a summer season, with lap swimming only from September. For lessons, there is also Wolfies Swim School, 5230 Cedar St, a swim school with a Bellaire address.
Classes and play
The rest of the list is indoor, and most of it is a class, a camp or a drop-in session rather than a place to wander into.
- Idea Lab Kids (Bellaire), 5410 Bellaire Blvd, is a STEAM center. Its site lists summer camps, after-school programs, workshops and birthday parties, with classes in coding, robotics, drone engineering, culinary arts, movie studio production and visual arts. - We Rock The Spectrum - Bellaire, 6706 Ferris St, is a sensory gym. Its site describes an autism-focused, sensory-safe space with open play, classes and parties, for children from toddlers through teens, with parents welcome to join in. - Young Picassos, 4747 Bellaire Blvd, is an art school. - Texas Chess Center, 4007 Bellaire Blvd, in Houston across the city line, offers chess classes for beginners and experienced players, a ten-day trial of one class a week, club nights and tournaments. - The Little Gym, 8415 Stella Link Rd, in Houston, is a gymnastics-style program for children from 4 months to 12 years, with classes for infants, toddlers, pre-K and grade school and a birthday-party option.
Three of these, Idea Lab Kids, We Rock The Spectrum and The Little Gym, list birthday parties on their sites. If you would rather host in the open air, the city says some of its parks can be reserved for events through its park rentals page, and Evelyn's Park rents its event lawn and venue through the conservancy.
The library
The Bellaire City Library, 5111 Jessamine St, opened in 1951 and lists Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on Sunday. The city's library page announces a 75th Anniversary Reading Challenge for all ages beginning October 1 and a day of activities on October 10. Children's and teen programs have their own pages on the city's site, which is where to look for storytime dates.
An evening off
Friday Nite Live Bellaire, run at the Bellaire Rec Center, 7008 5th St, is a parents' night out and kids' recreation program for first through sixth graders. Its site says it runs every Friday during the school year from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Ask about admission on the site before you go.
The calendar
The city's special-events list gives these dates for families: the Great Pumpkin Hunt on Thursday, October 29, 2026, with a 4:45 p.m. sharp start; Selfies with Santa on December 2 and Holiday in the Park on December 3; the Chilly Dip on January 2, 2027; and the Daddy Daughter Dance on February 6, 2027. Party at the Pavilion, with live music on the Great Lawn at Bellaire Town Square, falls on the first Friday night of each month. The pumpkin hunt page states no venue and no price, so call the recreation center before you go.
Before you go
- Check each place's own page for current hours, because camps and classes change with the school calendar. - Check the Aquatics page for current rates before you swim, since the city charges residents and non-residents different amounts. - Buy Activity Wristbands for the Nature Discovery Center festival in advance if you can, since the games need them. - Call the recreation center before the Great Pumpkin Hunt to confirm where it is held. - Ask the library about storytime, since the main page points to separate children's pages.
