Burgers in and around Bellaire

A burger is the easiest meal to argue about and the hardest to write about honestly, because every restaurant on this list serves one and most of the websites say so in the same words. So this guide sticks to what the listings and sites actually say: where the restaurant is, what else is on the menu, and when it opens. Bellaire has two addresses of its own and a wider map within about three miles, and the wider map is where the variety is.

Inside the city

Lankford's - Bellaire, at 5208 Bissonnet St., is the burger restaurant with the Bellaire address. The Lankford's website is a landing page that sends you to separate sites for its Midtown, Bellaire and Woodlands locations, so check the Bellaire page for a menu before you promise anyone a particular burger. The listing shows the restaurant open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, until 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Those 9 a.m. openings on the weekend are worth noting, because most of the sit-down places on this page open at 11.

Burger King, at 5301 Bellaire Blvd., is the other one. Its listing shows hours around the clock, every day of the week, which makes it the only burger on this page you can reasonably count on after a late event.

Our list has only two burger restaurants inside Bellaire, and that is the whole city list. The rest of the guide is a short drive away.

The Meyerland and Westpark stretch

Becks Prime, at 708 Meyerland Plaza Mall, is the nearest of the sit-down grills. Its website describes burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches, with starters, salads, plated classics, dinners and sides, and mentions wood-fired queso, a Cobb salad and hand-cut fries. The listing shows it open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.

Bubba's Texas Burger Shack, at 5230 Westpark Dr., serves burgers and bison burgers, patty melts, sandwiches and hot dogs, and its sides include fries, onion rings and chili. Its site also lists black bean burgers, grilled cheese, salads and Frito pie, and it says the shack is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day.

Richmond Avenue and Chimney Rock

Smashburger, at 5102 Richmond Ave., is listed as a burger restaurant, and its listing shows 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. most days and until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Whataburger, at 2820 Chimney Rock Rd., lists hours around the clock every day, like Burger King.

Burganic Hub, at 2721 Chimney Rock Rd., is the place on this list for a table with mixed diets. Its website lists beef, vegan and plant-based burgers, including Beyond and Impossible, along with salads, loaded fries, chicken dishes and cheesecake. The listing shows 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday.

A burger place that also sells salads and sandwiches is a better bet for a table where not everyone wants a burger.

burger-chan, at 5353 W Alabama St., Suite 110, describes customizable gourmet burgers with Asian-inspired flavors. Its website describes a signature burger with two two-ounce ground chuck patties, smashed to order, with lettuce, tomato, caramelized onion, cheddar and a house thousand island sauce on a toasted brioche bun, and says it also serves beer and wine. No hours are in our data.

Hopdoddy Burger Bar, at 4444 Westheimer Rd., Suite H100, is the one with a full bar. Its website says it serves Angus beef, bison, tuna, chicken and plant-based patties, hand-cut fries with rotating flavors, protein salad bowls and a full bar with cocktails and boozy milkshakes. It posts 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. most days and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with a weekday happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m.

Beyond beef

The websites are more varied than the category suggests. Bubba's Texas Burger Shack and Hopdoddy Burger Bar both list bison. Hopdoddy also lists tuna and chicken patties, and Bubba's lists a black bean burger. Burganic Hub lists vegan and plant-based burgers, including Beyond and Impossible, which makes it the most direct answer for a vegetarian at the table. Becks Prime lists hot dogs as well as burgers, and so does Bubba's.

burger-chan is the most specific of the group about how its burger is made, with smashed patties and a house sauce, while Hopdoddy is the most specific about what goes next to it, because it lists fries with rotating flavors. Neither of those details is a recommendation. They are what the restaurants say about themselves, and they are a reasonable way to choose between places you have not tried.

Picking by the clock

The list sorts itself by the hour. Before 11 a.m. on a weekend, Lankford's is the answer, and Burger King and Whataburger are the answer at any hour. After 9 p.m., Becks Prime and Hopdoddy stay open until 10 or later, Smashburger until 9:30 on most nights, and the two all-night chains keep going. Burganic Hub is the one listing with posted hours that closes on Sundays.

If the table is mixed, look for the places that list more than burgers. Becks Prime lists salads and sandwiches, Bubba's lists black bean burgers and grilled cheese, and Burganic Hub lists vegan burgers and chicken. A burger place that also sells salads and sandwiches is a better bet for a table where not everyone wants a burger.
