The same announcement describes a full-service bakery with custom cakes. The store lists daily hours from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., which makes it the answer when the dinner is tonight and the flowers are not bought. Ask at the store which delivery options the floral department offers, since the announcement mentions them without spelling them out.

Magpies Gifts, 5000 Bellaire Blvd, calls itself a family-owned gift shop. Beauty Shop Bellaire, 5202 Bellaire Blvd, is a store for skin care and beauty. Its site describes clean, sustainable skin care, makeup, fragrance, hair care, body care, vitamins and gifts from brands that include Augustinus Bader, Laneige and RMS Beauty. Our file lists no hours for it, so check the site.

Jewelry

MJ Jewelers of Bellaire, 5208 Bellaire Blvd, sells rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and bridal jewelry. Its site says every piece is handcrafted at its atelier, and that the business has more than 17 years of experience in jewelry and five years in the Bellaire area. It lists Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A jeweler is where a gift becomes a keepsake, so allow time to look at the cases and to choose without being hurried.

Children's Collections, 5219 Bellaire Blvd, is a consignment shop, and its site is clear that it does not buy items. Put the listed hours together and a pattern appears. Monday through Saturday the independent shops open at 9 or 10 in the morning and close at 5 or 6 in the evening, which suits a lunch-hour errand. McHugh Tea Room & Gifts lists a short Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and H-E-B is open on every day of the week from early morning until 11 p.m. A gift bought on a Saturday afternoon at Magpies Gifts or MJ Jewelers of Bellaire has to be in hand by 5 p.m.

For a host gift, tea and candles are the quick answer. For a baby, the consignment shop is practical, and Magpies Gifts carries baby items too. For an anniversary, the jeweler is the place to start, and you can finish with flowers from H-E-B on the way home.
