Brunch and Breakfast in Bellaire
Bellaire does breakfast the way a city of homes should: early, without fuss, and mostly finished by the middle of the afternoon. The hours each place lists start at 6 a.m. or 7 a.m. for several of them, and several more list a 3 p.m.

Bellaire does breakfast the way a city of homes should: early, without fuss, and mostly finished by the middle of the afternoon. The hours each place lists start at 6 a.m. or 7 a.m. for several of them, and several more list a 3 p.m. close on most days. The weekend adds a second tier of restaurants that switch on a brunch menu and open a little before lunch. The guide runs roughly from the earliest opening to the latest: donuts and kolaches first, sit-down breakfast next, and weekend brunch after that.
The weekday regulars
Bellaire Coffee Shop, at 5422 Bissonnet St., posts a 6 a.m. weekday opening and a 2 p.m. close, which suits anyone who wants breakfast finished before the morning meeting. On weekends it lists a 7 a.m. opening.
Kolache Factory, at 4001 Bellaire Blvd. in Houston, posts the same 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekday hours. It makes kolaches by hand, savory ones such as sausage, egg and cheese and bacon, egg and cheese, and sweet ones, along with cinnamon rolls and espresso drinks.
Coffee Fellows, at 4900 Bissonnet St., lists breakfast sandwiches, overnight oats, yogurt parfaits, waffles, muffins and pastries on its website, next to the coffee. It lists a 6 a.m. opening on weekdays and 7 a.m. on weekends.
Some mornings the plan is a donut and nothing more, and Bellaire can oblige. Shipley Do-Nuts, at 4501 Bissonnet St., lists a 5 a.m. opening every day of the week. Fresh & Best Donuts, at 5214 Bellaire Blvd., also posts 5 a.m., but it closes at 2 p.m. and stays shut on Mondays.
Sit-down breakfast
Brunch in Bellaire comes in three moods: the plate of eggs, the plate of chilaquiles, and the margarita with a plate nearby. The first two start early in the morning, and the third belongs to the weekend.
The Toasted Yolk Cafe, at 5103 Bellaire Blvd., is the full-service choice, with breakfast, brunch and lunch, French toast and mimosas, eggs, bacon and biscuits, and a full bar. Its website mentions locally sourced eggs and says the sauces and dressings are prepared fresh daily. The restaurant posts hours from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day of the week, which makes weekday brunch easy here.
Dandelion Cafe Bellaire, at 5405 Bellaire Blvd., serves made-to-order coffee with French toast, waffles, pancakes, chilaquiles, a black bean tostada and chicken and waffles, plus mimosas and smoothies. It lists a 7 a.m. opening on most days and 8 a.m. on Sunday, and it closes at 3 p.m. or 4 p.m.
Cedar St. Cafe, at 215 N. 5th St., serves a Mexican breakfast, and Community Impact reported in 2023 that the menu includes chilaquiles, migas with avocado and queso fresco, burritos, and breakfast tacos filled with chorizo, eggs, bacon or barbacoa. It lists a 7 a.m. opening and a 3 p.m. close, with Sundays starting at 8 a.m. The same report says owner Ana Soria opened it in September 2021 in memory of her mother.
Weekend brunch
Candente, at 5101 Bellaire Blvd., is a Tex-Mex restaurant whose website leads with queso topped with chopped brisket and sea salt-rimmed margaritas, and lists a Saturday and Sunday brunch. Its listing posts a 10 a.m. opening on both weekend days and 11 a.m. on weekdays.
The '401, at 6700 Ferris St., lists lunch, brunch and dinner on its website, with a weekend brunch and a kids menu. The restaurant posts a 10 a.m. opening on Saturday and Sunday and 11 a.m. on weekdays, which makes it the easier call when the table includes children.
Evelyn's Park, at 4400 Bellaire Blvd., is the five-acre conservancy-run park whose natural playground is built with reclaimed tree stumps and a ten-foot slide. The cafe inside it, Betsy's, is a good way to combine breakfast with a walk, and the park's Great Lawn, trails and gardens are the reason to leave time afterward. The cafe's website describes homemade breakfast tacos, smoothies and coffee in the morning, moving to shared plates, sandwiches, burgers and salad bowls through the evening, and it lists a weekday happy hour. Betsy's posts a 9 a.m. opening on Saturday and Sunday and 8 a.m. on weekdays.
Just across the line
Dish Society, at 4191 Bellaire Blvd. in Southside Place, is a farm-to-table restaurant, and its menu page lists brunch, lunch and supper. Its website says it cooks with pure butter and olive oil rather than seed oils. It lists a 7 a.m. opening every day of the week, so it covers weekdays and weekends alike.
Leven Bakery & Cafe, at 4191 Bellaire Blvd., the same address as Dish Society, describes itself as a gluten-free bakery and cafe with all-day meals. It lists a 7 a.m. opening, and 8 a.m. on Sunday. For a group that includes someone who cannot eat wheat, it is the simplest answer in this guide.
How to choose
For a fast weekday breakfast, pick Bellaire Coffee Shop or Kolache Factory, both of which list a 6 a.m. opening. For a proper table and a full bar, pick The Toasted Yolk Cafe. For a Mexican breakfast, pick Cedar St. Cafe. For a weekend brunch with a margarita, pick Candente, and if children are coming, pick The '401, which lists a kids menu, or Betsy's, which sits inside a park with a natural playground.
Before you go
- The listing for Candente posts a 10 a.m. weekend opening, and The '401 does the same, but both open at 11 a.m. on weekdays, so neither is a weekday breakfast stop. - The Toasted Yolk Cafe, Dandelion Cafe Bellaire and Cedar St. Cafe each list a 3 p.m. close on most days, so arrive by lunchtime at the latest. - Fresh & Best Donuts is closed on Mondays, so a Monday donut means Shipley Do-Nuts. - Kolache Factory, Dish Society and Leven Bakery & Cafe have Houston or Southside Place addresses rather than Bellaire ones, but all three are on Bellaire Boulevard, just beyond the city line. - Hours come from business listings and can change, so confirm with the restaurant before you drive.
